# Universal Search

This is a universal search bar that allows you to quickly find the information you need. For example, enter a first name of a user. CIPP will return a list of all users in your connected tenants with that first name. You can toggle between "Users", "Groups", "Applications", "Licenses", "BitLocker", and "Pages" to alter what the search is looking for. When you select "BitLocker" you also have the option to search by "Key ID" or "Device ID". The license search will return information on the license like a description, service plans, etc. which can be helpful if you receive data elsewhere that just has partial information that you need to reference.

{% hint style="info" %}
This feature relies on the cached data from the CIPP reporting database. You can force a database refresh using the "Update Report" button in [#report-control](#report-control "mention")
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.cipp.app/user-documentation/shared-features/menu-bar/universal-search.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
